2011 Art Walk Series, Toledo’s Arts Zone

Get to know the local artists, studios and galleries of the Arts Zone, the Warehouse District and other neighborhoods in the Downtown area, and have an opportunity to purchase local art.

The 10th annual Great Maumee River Dragon Boat Festival

Date: July 23rd, 2011

Time: 8 a.m.-5 p.m.
Location: International Park in the Maumee River, 26 Main Street, Toledo (Downtown Toledo)

Admission: Free

The Dragon Boat Festival is an opportunity to create teams of 21 to 25 paddlers (at least 8 females per boat) and race 500 meters down the Maumee River, competing for trophies, awards and prizes. Groups expected include corporate/business, church, civic, school and neighborhood groups. A variety of food will be provided. Proceeds support the mission of Partners In Education of Toledo. The 93rd annual Toledo Area Artists Exhibition (Toledo Museum of Art)

Dates: Aug. 26 – Sept. 25th, 2011

The TMA Director Brian Kennedy and Associate Director Amy Gilman will be jurors for the Toledo Area Artists Exhibition. This show features Northwest Ohio's vibrant artistic community, and one entrant this year will be chosen for a solo exhibition at the Museum, taking place in 2012.

Fiestas Patronales /La Sagrada Familia Parish Festival

Dates: July 29 - 31, 2011

Time: Friday Mass is at 6:30 p.m., and the festival starts at 7 p.m. until Midnight, Saturday from 3 p.m. to Midnight, and Sunday's Mass is at noon and the festival begins at  2 p.m. to 11p.m.

This three-day festival will feature games, rides, music and food from several different Latino countries including Peru, Puerto Rico, Mexico, Dominican Republic, and Cuba.

Puerto Rican Home Festival and Parade

Date and Time: Possibly last weekend of July 2011, Exact dates TBA soon

Location: Puerto Rican Home, 1603 E. 28th St., Lorain.

Admission: Free

With new leadership since January comes a new name for this year's festival and parade. It is now called the Puerto Rican Home Festival and Parade.

The two-day festival will feature an art sale and Jibaro music on Friday, and a parade Saturday, said Julie Ortiz, secretary. The parade starts at noon and will extend from Oakwood Park, Clinton Avenue, Pearl Avenue and finish at the Home on 28th street.

The club is also planning to create a year-round organization for children to dance and sing, Ortiz said.

Sacred Heart Summer Festival

Detroit Zoo Hosts Hispanic/Latino Festival

Date: July 28th – 10:00AM – 3:00PM

The Detroit Zoo will celebrate Metro Detroit’s Hispanic/Latino community and culture at the Hispanic/Latino Festival. The Hispanic/Latino Festival will feature a variety of live entertainment, including performances by Benny Cruz Y La Buena Vida, Así Es Mi Tierra, a Hispanic youth dance group and MSalsa, the University of Michigan’s salsa group.
