Lorain International Festival, June 20 to June 26

With the successful completion of Toledo’s LatinoFest on June 18th, get ready for a multicultural presentation of the flavors, sights and sounds from all around the world because the 45th annual Lorain International Festival and Bazaar has begun. The festival runs from June 20 – June 26, 2011.


It’s the premier week-long festival of the summer for Lorain that spotlights the roughly 55 to 70 nationalities and ethnicities in the International City.

The festival features 8 separate events near downtown Lorain. The city’s multiple nationalities are celebrated through folkloric music, dance, costumes, traditions and ethnic cuisine from over 40 food vendors. The weekend bazaar takes place along the Black River, and features live performances, and crafts. This year’s spotlighted Nationality is Greece and the spotlighted organization is Cleveland Clinic. Free parking is provided but parking charges may apply in some surrounding areas.

Monday, June 20:

Lorain International Breakfast, 8 a.m., at DeLuca’s Place in the Park, 6075 Middle Ridge Rd., Lorain, and cost is a $10 donation. For tickets contact Thom Urbanek at [email protected]

Also Monday, Band Concert at Veteran’s Park, 7 p.m., at Veterans Park, West Erie Avenue & Washington Avenue in Lorain, and cost is free.

Tuesday, June 21:

Heritage of Sacred Music, 7:15p.m., The Lorain Palace Civic Theatre, 617 Broadway Avenue, Lorain and cost is free. The event will feature songs of worship and praise from local congregations with an “International” flair.

Wednesday, June 22:

Spotlight Nationality Cultural Night, 6p.m.- 12 a.m.,  at Saint Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, 2000 Tower Boulevard, Lorain, 44052, and cost is $20. Hosted by the Greek Community, the Lorain International’s 2011 Spotlight nationality will feature a Greek dinner and live entertainment. For tickets call (440) 960-2992.

Thursday, June 23:


Princess Pageant
, 7p.m., Lorain Palace Civic Theatre, 617 Broadway Avenue, Lorain, and cost is $11. For tickets, call (440) 320-6556. The annual Princess Pageant will crown the 2011-2012 Queen, 1st Runner-Up, 2nd Runner-Up, and 3rd Runner-Up. This year there are 22 princesses competing.

Friday, June 24 – Sunday, June 26:

Lorain International Bazaar, Black River Landing in Lorain (just east of Broadway) and admission cost is free. Friday runs from 5 to 11 p.m., with opening ceremonies at 6 p.m., Saturday runs from noon to 11 p.m., and Sunday runs from noon to 6 p.m.  The bazaar will feature over 100 ethnic foods, children activities, arts and crafts and all-day live entertainment.
