The ballpark will also feature a variety of fun-packed events this summer

By Ingrid Marie Rivera, La Prensa Correspondent

As in Toledo with the Toledo Mud Hens, baseball is in the air in Lorain, which has literally begun its season with an explosion – with a fireworks show.

The PRO Baseball Booster Club, the City of Lorain and the Lorain County Ironmen Baseball Club invite the public to its ballpark, the U.S. Steel Pipe Yard Stadium, 2840 Meister Road, Lorain, for the 2011 Season, from June to August 2011. Tickets are $5, and season tickets are $99.

The Lorain County Ironmen held their home opener June 3, 2011 at the Pipe Yard with a fireworks show following the game to celebrate their second season in the county. They will be hosting local college baseball teams at the Pipe Yard this spring and summer. Cedar Point giveaways will be provided at every Saturday home game, and a special VIP package to the amusement park will be given. Sunday start times this season will begin at 2 p.m.

The Ironmen are members of the 11-team Prospect League, that was officially formed in mid-Summer 2008, and that has produced professional baseball players such as: Kirby Puckett, Mike Schmidt, Ryan Howard, and Jonathan Papelbon, just to name a few.  This wood-bat league is among the best in the United States, said Rey Carrion, of Lorain’s Community Development Department.

Teams visiting the Pipe Yard this year will include Eastern Division rivals Slippery Rock, Butler, West Virginia, Richmond, and Chillicothe. Cross divisional games will see the Ironmen hosting the Danville Dans and the Terre Haute Rex.
