Excel Program at University of Toledo

On June 12^th 2011, the Excel Program from the University of Toledo presented the Program Group XIX graduates and welcomed the new students, Group XXIII into the “Excel Family.”
 

Toledo Excel Program is a Scholarship Incentive Program, which starts the process when students are going into 9^th grade and during the four years prepares them for college success. The program targets underrepresented groups, such as African-American, Appalachian, Asian, Latinos, and Native-Americans.

During the four years that students participate in the program, they are expected to maintain at least a “B” average in school curriculum. The program has an emphasis on academic skills, but also provides the opportunity to attend annual Summer Institutes and traveling within the U.S. or other countries.

Dr. Helen C. Cooks was the creator who put together the initial proposal for Toledo Excel. In 1989, Toledo Excel received the first group of 50 ninth graders.

Raelyn Mejias Santoro, a graduated of the Toledo School for the Arts, is Toledo Excel Group XIX’s Co-Salutatorian. Music Major Santoro was named Valedictorian of her senior class at TSA. Also, Andréa Almanza who is a graduate of Toledo School for the Arts and Honor Roll student and member of the Hispanic Excellence organization. These are only two among other 38 amazing graduate participants of the Excel Group XIX.

Above it all, the Excel Program offers students from the Toledo area an opportunity to prepare themselves for a career, to embrace their destiny while shaping up their future.
