Free Perennial Plant Exchange at Original Sub Shop, May 14
Saturday morning, May 14, 2011, hundreds of plants will be given away at the annual Perennial Exchange at the Original Sub Shop, on South Broadway Street, Toledo, near the Amtrak station. A spring and fall tradition, the plant exchange features everything from coneflowers, hostas, grasses and ground covers to vegetable seedlings and Oak Openings natives.
Participants are asked to bring plants and gardening gear in good condition – tools, books, yard art, you name it. Tickets issued for donations are then redeemed for other items. Even people who don’t have anything to bring will have the opportunity to take plants home.
Plant drop-off is from 9 – 10 a.m. While plants are being received and organized, everyone is invited to attend a free workshop, Raising Rabbits and Chickens, from 9 – 9:45AM, or visit the nearby Farmer’s Market. The plant exchange area is open from 10 – 11:30AM.
Organizations that support and participate in the exchange include: Toledo Grows, MutliFaith Council, Wild Ones, OSU Master Gardeners, Phoenix Co-op, and Slow Foods. Most will have representatives on hand to offer gardening advice and answer questions.
