St. Francis de Sales students honored for Hispanic Excellence

The Ohio State University held its 3rd annual Hispanic Excellence Ceremony at the Toledo Hilton last month.  Jonah Bae (Sylvania) and Dakota Grodi (Toledo), who are juniors at St. Francis de Sales High School, were honored at the dinner as students who excel academically and are aspiring to become leaders in the Latino community. 

Dr. Ernesto Escoto, the Keynote Speaker for the evening, serves as the Associate Director of Clinical Services at The Ohio State University and also is an advisory board member at Encuentro Latino-National Institute on Family Violence.   
 

Dr. Escoto gave an inspiring speech regarding his own struggles to become educated and the tremendous need for educated Latino professionals.  “Dr. Escoto spoke to the need for goal driven hardworking students,” said Mrs. Ribovich, school guidance counselor. She continued, “Jonah and Dakota are excellent examples of these qualities. 

Both have taken advantage of the opportunities St. Francis offers by becoming involved and pushing themselves to excel academically.  It has been a pleasure working with the families of these two students.  Both families value education and are dedicated to their child’s success.  I know that Dakota and Jonah will both be successful in giving back to their communities and sharing their talents and gifts.”
