April is Minority Health Month!
Minority Health Month is a 30-day health and wellness campaign for the entire community, featuring health fairs, health information, health screenings, nutrition education, physical fitness, and many other fun family activities which promote healthy lifestyle changes and provide individuals the opportunity to practice healthy behaviors.

On April 12, 2011, from 1:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m., Wood County Health District will host “Learn Your Critical Health Numbers for a Healthy Heart” event at the Wood County Health Department on East Gypsy Lane Road in Bowling Green, Ohio. The event features free health screenings including total cholesterol, blood sugar, blood pressure, waist circumference and BMI measurements. Education will be provided to address early detection and disease prevention of diabetes and cardiovascular disease. Walk-in only, no appointment needed.
On April 26, from 9:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m., Wood County Health District will host “Learn Your Critical Health Numbers for a Healthy Heart” at the Northwood Municipal Building at 6000 Wales Road in Northwood, Ohio. Walk-in only, no appointment needed. Both of these events feature free health screenings, education, and take home materials including glucometers and test strips to individuals who are in need of them. Funding is provided by the Ohio Commission on Minority Health.
