Cofounder of national student enrichment program coming to Toledo

On April 6, 2011, the Women’s Initiative of United Way will host Nínive Calegari – cofounder of 826 Valencia, former CEO of 826 National, educator, author, and filmmaker – at their annual spring event.

826 National is a nonprofit tutoring, writing, and publishing organization with a goal of assisting low-income students with writing skills, as well as helping teachers get their classes excited about writing. Under Calegari’s leadership, both 826 Valencia and 826 National were the recipients of numerous awards and recognitions.

“We are absolutely thrilled Ms. Calegari has agreed to speak at our event,” said Elizabeth Ruppert, M.D., Honorary Event Chair. “Engaging children in learning through out-of-school programming is critical, and we are confident Ms. Calegari will infuse attendees with her passion and creativity, motivating them to make a difference in their own way.”

The event, presented by Owens Corning, will take place at Owens Corning World Headquarters in downtown Toledo. Networking and hors d’oeuvres will begin at 5:00 p.m. and the program at 6:15 p.m. Following the presentation, a book signing and reception will be held from 7:30 to 8:00 p.m.

This year, Women’s Initiative of United Way is celebrating ten years of mobilizing and inspiring other women, volunteering, and investing in valuable programs around the community. The initiative has invested more than $1 million to date in this community.

If you are interested in attending the spring event, the cost is $25 in advance, $35 at the door, or $15 with a valid student ID. RSVPs are due by Wednesday, March 30, at [email protected] or 419-254-4667. A portion of the proceeds will help support the 2011-2012 Women’s Initiative program investments.
