Adrian planners recommend medical marijuana rules

ADRIAN, Jan. 5, 2011 (AP): The Adrian Planning Commission recommends that the southern Michigan city limit medical marijuana operations to one business zoning district and bar them from sites within 500 feet of a church, school, park, or playground.

The commission is holding a public hearing Feb. 1, 2011 on the proposal, which it worked out at a meeting Tuesday.

The Adrian City Commission would have to approve the plan for it to become law.

Under the proposal, only one caregiver could use a given facility. The Michigan Medical Marijuana Act limits each caregiver to five patients.

The commission's plan also calls for medical marijuana facilities to be at least 1,000 feet apart.

State voters approved medical use of marijuana in 2008, and The Daily Telegram says Adrian now has two known medical marijuana facilities.
