Lorain se prende para la Navidad, Celebraciónes del Invierno

La alegría de la navidad llegó al centro de Lorain con un espectacular despliegue de luces.
 

La ciudad prendió decenas de árboles y lanzó fuegos artificiales. Además, personas caracterizando soldados de juguetes, personas con zancudos, y hasta el mismo Santa Claus saludó a más de 5,000 visitantes, el sábado, 27 de noviembre  del 2010, para la segunda anual “Light Up Lorain” o “Prende a Lorain.”

“Estoy tan orgulloso de esta ciudad,” el alcalde Tony Krasienko le dijo a la audiencia, “Esto muestra nuestra ciudad. Debemos celebrar como ciudad. Por primera vez en décadas, tenemos construción en el centro de la ciudad y tenemos negocios regresando,” dijo. 

La fiesta empezó con cientos de personas alineandose para ver la parada que incluyó a la banda de Lorain High School, los ratoncitos Miguel  y Minnie, y los caracteres de navidad como los juguetes soldados de Nutcracker.                  

Los alegres señores Santa Claus concluyeron la parada, saludando, mientras pasaban abordo de un camión de bomberos.

La representante del congreso, Betty Sutton (D-13) agradeció a los organizadores por “hacer el centro de Lorain brillar.”
 

Ella dijo “mientras disfrutamos de las celebraciones y damos gracias esta semana por todo lo bueno en nuestras vidas y por todas las bendiciones que hemos recibido, espero que nos inspire a dar una mano a aquellos en necesidad.”

Los cánticos de navidad llenaron el Veteran’s Park cuando la banda de la Escuela Superior de Lorain tocaron y seis personas cantaron. Entre ellos, un grupo de pequeños niños vistiendo con cuernos de venados cantaron “Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer.”

Y el alcade Krasienko mantuvo una tradición.

Usando una gorra roja de Santa Claus, Krasienko se sentó al borde del escenario y leyó A Visit from St. Nicolas, por Clement Clarke Moore, mejor conocido como ’Twas a Night Before Christmas, a decenas de niños.

Mary Ivan-Garza vino desde el sur de Ohio para el Día de Acción de Gracias y no podía perderse la parada.
 

Ella vino con su hermano, sus tres nietos, y cuatro sobrinos y sobrinas, entre 6 y 13 de edad, quienes estaban parados en una camioneta para ver la parada mejor.

“Se trata de los niños,” dijo Ivan-Garza “En el periódico, parecía ser un buen evento familiar.”

Los visitantes tuvieron paseos en carros, en carruajes de caballo por Broadway, el Palacio Municipal hasta el Parque Lakeview.

Las organizaciones Lorain Arts Council, Black River Historical Society/the Moore House Museum and the Lorain Public Library tuvieron casa abierta.

Santa Claus y su esposa recibieron a los visitantes en el Lorain Palace Theatre, y en Mrs. Claus’ Kitchen, 637 Broadway.

El momento más esperado de la noche vino cuando las princesas del Festival Internacional de Lorain del 2010 y el alcade prendieron las luces por la ciudad.
 

En vez de prender un gran árbol, la ciudad decoró las calles con cientos y cientos de luces en docenas de árboles y postes de luz.

Joe Skodny, del 2010 Downtown Lorain Christmas Council, dijo con la ayuda de múltiples donantes, pudieron reunir $66,000 para el show.

Skodny dijo que ellos añadieron 60,000 nuevas luces a decenas de árboles este año; el año pasado tuvo 10,000 luces.
 

Krasienko dijo que las luces son eficientes de energía y le costaran a la ciudad $4 al día.

Las luces bailaban al ritmo de varias canciones navideñas en el Palacio Municipal para el show animado.

“Cuando dije que lo logramos, fuimos docenas de personas que logramos lo que van a ver,”  Skodny dijo. “Esto es para ti y tu familia y tus vecinos.”

Sierra Thomas, la presidenta de la clase del 2009 del Lorain Admiral King High School y estudiante de Bowling Green State University, cantó “Silent Night,” y “White Christmas”en el concierto.

“La navidad es en realidad mi tiempo favorito del año,” dijo Thomas “Y estoy muy emocionada por esto porque puedes compartir con tu familia.”

Agregó porqué la navidad es tan especial para ella.

“Es importante recordar la verdadera razón de la navidad - porqué lo celebramos - es el nacimiento de Jesucristo. Por eso es importante para mí. Creo que simboliza mucho la familia.”
