Don’t miss Candidates’ Night, Aug. 26

Cleveland: Latino leaders are offering voters an opportunity to meet the people who will shape the new form of county government.  The Candidates’ Night and Governance Forum is aimed at making sure the voices of Latino voters are heard prior to the September 7^th County Executive and County Council Primary Election.

Candidates are expected to explain to at least 300 Latino leaders and citizens how they plan to serve the needs of the growing Latino population in Cuyahoga County.  Voters will also learn how the new form of County government may affect them.

Latino community leaders say this is an important event on August 26, 2010, because the Latino voting block will have a big influence on whether candidates get elected in west side communities where there are a large number of Latino residents. 

“Our numbers are growing and we will be the balance of power in this election. Moreover, we expect bi-lingual ballots to become a reality in the near future,” said José Feliciano, Chairman of the Hispanic Roundtable.  “Bi-lingual ballots will encourage more Hispanics to participate in the democratic process by making it easier for them to vote.” 

The event will serve as an educational forum for the Latino community to learn what the new Cuyahoga County structure will do, and its effects on health and human services that many families in the two county districts receive. Members of the community will have the opportunity to hear first hand from the candidates about what they will do if elected.

The Hispanic Roundtable and its partners along with the Cuyahoga County Transition Public Engagement Committee has invited candidates for County Executive, and County Council for Districts 2 & 3, to address the community about what to expect if they are elected on November 2^nd.

The Candidates’ Night and Governance Forum is Thursday, August 26, 2010 at La Sagrada Familia Church located at 7719 Detroit Avenue in Cleveland from 5:30-7:30pm
