Guests indulged themselves with delicious food, enjoyed live entertainment bands and performances, while kids enjoyed various games and rides. Choco Orta was this year’s main attraction; other performers included Toby Love and Kevin Ceballo.
Thousands lined the parade route, waving flags and cheering as floats honoring various towns of Puerto Rico passed by.
Letitia López of Julia De Burgos said the festival really felt like community this year with inclusion of Latino community and social organizations like the Spanish American Committee, the Hispanic Alliance, among others. For next year she’d like to expand sponsors to bring more artists and performers to the festival.
“This was the best parade every,” said Beth Col QUOTE  n after the last float made its way past. Col QUOTE  n attends the festival every year and said the Low-Riders are always her favorite and this year she had plenty to swoon over.
The riders really put pedal to the metal as they honked their horns, threw treats in the air for the crowd and raced north on East 9th Avenue waving flags.
Col QUOTE n said the energy was wonderful but she would like to see more culture too.
The festival was also bustling with political candidates, mingling and campaigning, as they walked the parade route. “I am not surprised,” said José Col QUOTE n, “It’s the same every election year.”
Estefani Rodríguez looks forward to the festival each year and this year she came especially from Lorain to attend. “I love everything, the food, the music … the boys,” she said; adding it’s a great time to reconnect with her heritage and display her Puerto Rican pride.
