She said the cultural festival brings together members from partner parishes and celebrates all nationalities. This year vendors represented Puerto Rican, Peruvian, Salvadorian, and Mexican with unique crafts, and mouth watering ethnic food. While most vendors are local, several came from as far as Florida and Chicago.
No festival is complete without music and guests were wholly entertained by many performers including: Ritmo y Raza Dance Company, D.J. Guiro, Papo Ruiz y la Dulzura de la Salsa, and many more.
Carnival rides for children were the highlight for many like Luz Figueroa, who brings her kids to the festival each year. “My children love it, they have a great time,” she said. Figueroa said the festival offers a wonderful place to meet members from other parishes while enjoying delicious food; “the food this year was fabulous,” she said.
Other attractions included crafts, raffle prize of $10,000 or the prize of a 2010 Chevy Cobalt, second place prize of $1000 and third place of $500.
Colόn said the festival is expected to raise around $40,000, which will “pay the bills”.
The Church honored Father Robert Joseph Reidy with a proclamation to celebrate o his first year leading the parish and remembered late Fr. David Francis Fallon.
Fr. Reidy said new youth program will begin in September, encouraging religious values through outreach and added he is personally devoted to the cause of helping the undocumented population and would like to begin a program to address the issue.
