UT partners in national women’s health series
Most people think of a renowned artist when the name da Vinci is mentioned, but the da Vinci Surgical System is actually one of today’s most sophisticated technologies for minimally invasive procedures.
The University of Toledo and local Curves fitness centers are hosting several events this month as part of a national “da Vinci Women’s Health: Small Steps” series to educate women about wellness and prevention issues.
Drs. John P. Geisler and Nauman Khurshid, faculty members in the department of obstetrics and gynecology, will discuss the da Vinci system, which utilizes state-of-the-art robotic and computer technologies for certain procedures, including hysterectomy and cancer treatments, among others.
Procedures performed with the da Vinci system generally benefit patients by allowing greater surgical precision, which translates into shorter hospital stays and recovery times, less pain, less risk of infection, less blood loss, fewer transfusions, less scarring and quicker return to normal activities.
Events will take place on the following dates: Tuesday, May 18, 1 to 2 p.m., Curves, 6377 Monroe St., Sylvania; Thursday, May 20, 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., Curves, 2526 N. Reynolds Road, Toledo; and Tuesday, May 25, 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., University of Toledo George Isaac Minimally Invasive Surgery Center lobby.
Geisler and Khurshid will offer simulated demonstrations of the da Vinci system. For information, call 419.383.4267.
