Dear Computer Discount,

I have Norton Antivirus, everything was working great until one morning a program popped up and say I have numerous infections and the only way to get rid of it is to buy this Antivirus call Antivirus 2010. I took it to a computer store and they said my computer is infected. How can I prevent this from happening again?

Chris

Chris,

There is a new strain of viruses that appears to be immune to all major retail Antivirus in the market that’s called Malware. There are a few ways you can do to protect yourself from getting infected with Malware.

Make sure you have an updated Antivirus. Most antivirus are yearly subscription.

Most people get this from search engine like google, yahoo or m.s.n.  Be careful when you are searching for something, try to stay on the first pages.

Look out for signs. Malware usually starts downloading to your computer during a search. When you are redirected to a different page, and you see a window downloading a program (with a download bar that indicates download status) Close that window IMMEDIATELY (you have approximately 5-8 seconds) Then, update your antivirus and do a full system scan.

If the program installed itself to your computer, try to do a full scan with your updated local antivirus. If that fails try to do a full system scan on safe mode (for advance computer users only)
