Latino students honored

On February 19th 2010, students of the Toledo area were recognized. Ohio State University honored students with a dinner at the Toledo Hilton for the 2nd Annual Excellence Ceremony this weekend. The purpose was to celebrate Hispanic Excellence Scholars in high school.

 Professor Frederick Luis Aldama, professor of English at OSU, gave an empowering speech about the struggles of education in the Latino population. He emphasized the fact that only 2 percent of Latino children in elementary school would obtain their college degrees.

The students were congratulated for making it thus far in their education and being in the top of their class.

Two Hispanic Excellence Scholars included Stephanie Angel (Perrysburg High School) and Deborah Amézquita (Notre Dame Academy).
