The University of Toledo Department of Music Welcomes Greek Pianist Lambis Vassiliadis in Concert Sunday, February 7

The University of Toledo Department of Music welcomes Greek pianist Lambis Vassiliadis as part of the Dorothy MacKenzie Price Piano Series, Sunday, February 7 at 3 p.m. in the UT Center for Performing Arts Recital Hall. On Saturday, February 6, 2010, Vassiliadis will conduct a master class.

Known for his amazing performance of the Liszt transcription of Beethoven’s 7th Symphony, as well as works by Bach, and Scriabin, Vassiliadis is a true virtuoso. Both the master class and the recital are free and open to the public.

Lambis Vassiliadis

Vassiliadis is one of the most distinguished Greek pianists of the younger generation, and represents a unique style of explosive pianism and artistic sensibility.  Privileged to study with Y. Menouhin, Victor Merzhanov, Jerome Rose and James Tocco, he holds five academic titles from universities and music academies around the world.

Vassiliadis won numerous awards in international and national piano competitions and managed to attract the attention of the international press as a recording artist.  His skill has been praised in music publications worldwide. He has appeared in many countries in solo concerts and with orchestras with a variety of repertoire including works like the 2nd Tchaikovsky concerto or Liszt’s Malediction.  Vassiliadis is currently Associate Professor of Piano at the Ionian University Department of Music in Corfu, Greece and the coordinator of the Summer Academy and Festival of Corfu.
The University of Toledo is proud to annually host the The Dorothy MacKenzie Price Piano Series. The series has brought many fine musicians to the University to provide master classes and recitals, including Anthony Pattin and William Wellborn this past fall. The pianist concluding the series this year is Irina Yukovskaya, whose master class and recital will be held April 17 and 18, respectively.
