Panel recommends McQuade for U.S. attorney

DETROIT, Dec. 18, 2009 (AP): The Senate Judiciary Committee is recommending confirmation of Barbara McQuade as the new U.S. attorney for Michigan's eastern district.

The panel took the vote on Thursday. The Detroit Free Press says the full Senate could consider the nomination before Christmas.

McQuade would replace Terrence Berg, who has been the acting U.S. attorney since August 2008. President Barack Obama nominated McQuade late last month.

She has been an assistant U.S. attorney for the Detroit-based Eastern District since 1998. Her nomination is for a four-year term.
