Batman vs. Bat-Manga!

The Toledo-Lucas County Public Library presents a “Batman vs. Bat-Manga!” FREE program scheduled from 4-5 p.m. on Wednesday, October 28, 2009, in the Children’s Program Room at Main Library, 325 Michigan St. (Note: This program is not intended for younger children).

Batman is an U.S.-American icon and comic book character that has survived for 70 years – did you know that the Japanese “borrowed” him and gave him a bit of a cultural twist?

Join Jim Beard, local comic book historian, who will explore this fascinating sidebar to Batman’s history. Which will you prefer?

You can read Bat-manga!: The Secret History of Batman in Japan by Chip Kidd, which is available @ the Library by request.

*Don’t forget to also mark your calendars for the Library’s Batman At 70 FREE program scheduled from 6:30-8 p.m. on Monday, November 9 in the McMaster Center at Main Library. Local comic book historian Jim Beard will again host this special retrospective featuring a live, interactive video chat with Greg Rucka, comic book writer and best-selling author.
