Owens Community College hosts Care Fair for Health, Oct. 14
Area residents and high school students are invited to learn about ways to make their lives more enjoyable through healthy living as Owens Community College hosts Care Fair for Health 2009 on Wednesday, Oct. 14, 2009.
The care fair is sponsored by the Owens School of Health Sciences’ faculty and students and occurs from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. in the College’s Student Health and Activities Center on the Toledo-area Campus. Owens is located on Oregon Road in Perrysburg Township.
Attendees will have the opportunity to gain practical health information from more than 60 displays outlining a diverse array of topics, including CPR, cancer information and care, fire safety, nutrition and culinary arts, genetic information, mental health, substance abuse, HIV awareness, sports care and stress management. Additionally, individuals will be able to test their personal health through free screenings and tests, including blood pressure and blood sugar screenings.
Owens School of Health Sciences faculty and students will be on hand to provide free bone density tests and scans. Flu shots and blood sugar screenings will be available from ProMedica Health Systems. The flu shots are $25 and receipts will be distributed for use as documentation for insurance reimbursement. Additionally, Fort Meigs YMCA Center for Health Promotion will offer a free digital body fat analysis to Care Fair for Health attendees. Students in Owens’ Massage Therapy program and the Student Nurses Association will be providing free massages and holding a bake sale, respectively.
