Mayoral candidates to square off at UT Sept. 17
What’s more constitutional than a good, old-fashioned debate?
The University community will get a look at democracy in action as Student Government hosts a Toledo mayoral debate Thursday, Sept. 17, 2009, in tandem with Constitution Day.

“The issues are pretty heated in Toledo, so we thought a debate would be a good way to demonstrate some of the First Amendment freedoms we enjoy, including freedom of expression, speech and assembly,” said Krystal Weaver, Student Government president.
The debate will feature the two mayoral candidates who garner the most votes during the primary election Tuesday, Sept. 15. Those in the race include: Democrats Ben Konop and Keith Wilkowski, Independents Mike Bell, D. Michael Collins and Opal Covey, and Republican James Moody.
The debate will be held at 2 p.m. on Centennial Mall on Main Campus. In the event of inclement weather, the debate will move to Student Union Room 2592. Weaver and Student Government Vice President Rachael Wise will moderate.
Early this week, Weaver intends to address the debate in her student blog, “Krystal Clear,” which is located at http://journals.utoledo.edu/krystal/index.php. She plans to include information about how to submit debate questions in her next post.
Free celebratory cake and pocket guides to the U.S. Constitution will be available, as well.
