Labor loves the Library

The Toledo-Lucas County Public Library welcomed major union organizations and officials on Wednesday, September 9, 2009, at its first Labor Loves the Library event held in honor of the Labor History Room.

Labor organizations—including the United Labor Committee, Teamsters Local 20, UAW Region 2B, AFSCME Ohio Council 8, Northwest Ohio Building Trades Council, and the Toledo Port Council—collaborated to present the Labor Loves Library event.

At the fundraiser, George Tucker, chairman of the United Labor Committee, welcomed guests. More than $4,000 was donated to the Labor History Room.

Proceeds from the fundraiser, which coordinators and sponsors hope to make an annual event, will help the Library purchase books and add memorabilia. The Labor History Room is located in the Local History and Genealogy department on the third floor of Main Library, 325 Michigan Street.
