Detroit’s John Witherspoon to tickle Perrysburg’s The Funny Bone

Perrysburg, OH: The Funny Bone at Fat Fish Blue is presenting John Witherspoon, a comedian with four decades of experience under his belt, on August 27-30, 2009. 


Most frequently remembered as ‘Pops’ on the television sitcom The Wayans Brothers and for his role as Ice Cube’s father in the Friday movie trilogy, the actor/comedian is currently on a North American stand-up comedy tour that will last through November.


The Detroit native made his first television appearance in 1978 on an episode of The Incredible Hulk, and would go on to appear in other classics including Good Times, WKRP in Cincinnati, and Barnaby Jones.


Along with appearances on the big screen beside the likes of Adam Sandler, Martin Lawrence, and Eddie Murphy, Witherspoon also made cameos in music videos for rapper Jay Z and rock act Sugar Ray.


The actor was nominated for a BET award in 2004 for his supporting role on The Tracy Morgan Show, on which he acted in five episodes beside the Saturday Night Live veteran.


Witherspoon also supplied the voice for numerous animated television series, most recently as ‘Grandad’ on Cartoon Network’s The Boondocks, a cartoon based on an award-winning comic strip that satirizes race relations in the United States.
