Raising Readers @ Your Library with WGTE!

July 2009: The Toledo-Lucas County Public Library (TLCPL) has announced that Super Why!, Martha Speaks, and Clifford the Big Red Dog will make their way to the South Branch Library to help young people learn to read!

TLCPL has launched its PBS KIDS® Raising Readers Library Corner at the South Branch Library, 1736 Broadway. The program is a national literacy campaign focused on building reading skills at home, at school, in child care, at the library and throughout the community.

Throughout the summer, South Branch Library officials have worked hard to help youth ages 2-8 build the skills they need to learn to read. Engaging PBS KIDS® programs are used along with exciting games, playful Web sites and easy-to-use learning resources for kids, parents, caregivers, librarians, and teachers.

WGTE TV 30 has joined in this most important and engaging program and will visit South Branch from 2:30-3:30 p.m. on Mondays, July 27, August 3, 10, 17, and 24, 2009, with special programs and activities. Check out these special character visits on Fridays too:

·         Friday, July 24 – 2:30 p.m. – Super Why! visit

·         Friday, July 31 – 2:30 p.m. – Clifford the Big Red Dog visit

·         Friday, August 7 – 9 a.m. – Martha Speaks visit

PBS KIDS® Raising Readers is funded by a Ready To Learn grant from the United States Department of Education.
