Levin’s, Stabenow’s recommendations for Eastern and Western District vacancies

June 24, 2009: U.S. Senators Carl Levin and Debbie Stabenow announced the names of the candidates whom they will recommend to President Barack Obama to fill vacancies on the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan, for United States Attorney and United States Marshal for the Eastern District of Michigan, and for United States Attorney and United States Marshal for the Western District of Michigan.

Earlier this year, the senators established advisory committees in the Eastern and Western Districts to interview and recommend candidates to fill the vacancies. The 25-member committee in the Eastern District is chaired by Eugene Driker of Detroit, and the 22-member Western District committee is headed by Gary McInerney of Grand Rapids

The senators selected the following individuals from candidates recommended by the advisory committees:

David Allen and Mark Goldsmith for the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan;

Barbara McQuade for U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Michigan;

Robert Grubbs for U.S. Marshal for the Eastern District of Michigan;

Scott Bowen for U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Michigan; and

Peter Muñoz for U.S. Marshal for the Western District of Michigan.

“We are pleased that the committees we established have recommended these outstanding candidates,” Levin said.  “The committees had extremely difficult choices because of the very large number of highly qualified people who expressed an interest in serving.  We want to express our gratitude to the members of the committees for their service, as well as to all of the candidates for their dedication to public service.”

“The final decision regarding the nominations of these candidates for Senate consideration lies with President Obama,” Stabenow said.  “We look forward to working with him to fill these important positions as soon as possible.”
