Roberto Ocasio Mural - Waetjen Lobby, 6:30 p.m.
Reception Eleven Latino artists paid tribute to their dear friend Roberto Ocasio by painting a mural in his honor in 2005, which is on display in Waetjen Lobby at Cleveland State University. The artists created the mural’s theme and images from their understanding of Ocasio’s relentless efforts in composing and playing the music of his heritage. Come meet some of the artists.

Roberto Ocasio Latin Jazz Project Performance - Drinko Hall, 7:00 p.m.
The Roberto Ocasio Latin Jazz Project will honor the legacy of the late jazz musician and bandleader with original music by Ocasio and band members' new compositions. Multi-Grammy nominated drummer/percussionist, composer/arranger, bandleader, and renowned scholar and educator, Bobby Sanabria will travel from New York and will be our special guest to host the Latin Jazz Project performance and tribute. Donations welcome to support The Roberto Ocasio Foundation and the 2009 Roberto Ocasio Latin Jazz Music Camp, July 12-17, for grades 8-12 (incl '09 grads), all instruments, Bobby Sanabria-Artist-In-Residence - Roberto Ocasio passed away tragically five years ago, and the annual music camp is celebrating its fifth summer providing opportunity for young people to learn and live the music and experience its history through the talents and commitment of Bobby Sanabria and a superb staff of Roberto Ocasio Latin Jazz Project musicians and music educators. The program also champions Roberto's commitment to diversity and to inspiration and confidence building for young people to pursue further education and their personal and professional goals.
