While at Northwood High School, Mr. Guerrero was selected for the Northwest Ohio District Honors Choir and was a member of the All Ohio State Fair Youth Choir; he was selected Most Outstanding Choir Member of the Year at Northwood; and participated in both Youth Leadership Toledo and YIPEE (Youth in Philanthropy Encouraging Excellence). Among other leadership roles, he was selected as HOBY (Hugh O’Brien Youth Leadership) Ambassador for Northwest Ohio and a Buckeye Boys State Delegate. Mr. Guerrero has volunteered for four years at Heartland Hospice.
The Scholarship was established by Buckeye CableSystem and Telemundo, one of the Spanish-language networks carried on Buckeye. Scholarship applicants are required to have a minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA and submit an essay addressing the theme “I’m Proud to be a Hispanic-American in Ohio.”
Applications for the Buckeye CableSystem/Telemundo Scholarship of the Toledo Community Foundation are available through the Guidance Departments of high schools in the Buckeye CableSystem Toledo service area, generally after the first of the year. Scholarship awards are announced in April.
