Let the Sunshine In @ Your Library! UT expert speaks on how to power your home and car using the sun
The Toledo-Lucas County Public Library hosts a free presentation titled, Solar Toledo: Learn How to Power Your Home and Car Using the Sun, scheduled from 7-8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 2, 2009, at Main Library, 325 Michigan St.
Dr. Alvin Compaan, professor of Physics and director of Materials Science and Engineering at The University of Toledo, will speak about his solar-powered home and truck. The program is geared toward anyone interested in step-by-step instruction on converting home and/or automobile to solar.
Participants also learn about the building and installation process, receiving federal money for solar projects, benefits to the environment, long-term cost savings, and how to go solar themselves.
By converting to solar, participants can save money on energy bills in the long-run, and receive federal incentives to make residential homes more energy efficient.
Following the program, interested participants can view Dr. Compaan’s solar-powered truck (which can also power his house for several days) in the underground Main Library parking garage.
