Alexia Romero inducted into Phi Beta Kappa

LORAIN: Alexia Romero, a rising senior at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia, was recently inducted into Phi Beta Kappa, the nation’s oldest and most prestigious honors organization. Election to Phi Beta Kappa is based on scholarship, breadth of culture, and general promise.

A Political Science Major and Spanish Minor, Alexia was also recently accepted into the Emory University Political Science Honors Thesis Program. She is also an elected member of Pi Sigma Alpha, the National Political Science Honor Society.

She was also inducted into Phi Eta Sigma as a freshman, the national scholastic honor society and the greatest honor attainable by a freshman at Emory University.

In fall semester 2008, she studied abroad in Costa Rica with the Associated Colleges of the Midwest in a full immersion program where classes were conducted in Spanish, students lived with Costa Rican host families, and students were encouraged to communicate exclusively in Spanish.

She also attended the 2008 Democratic National Convention in Denver, Colorado, as an elected delegate for Barack Obama from the 13th Congressional District of Ohio. She was the Youngest Latina Delegate at the Convention.

Alexia is a member of Delta Phi Epsilon Sorority, Pawsitive Outreach, Pre-Law Society, and Latin Student Organization. A 2006 graduate of Elyria Catholic High School, she is the daughter of Joanette and Richard Romero of Lorain, Ohio
