Michigander Veronica Peña selected as ‘51 Most Beautiful’

 MIAMI, April 9, 2009: Veronica Peña, a 23 year-old Colombian pre-med student from Michigan, was selected as this year’s “51 Most Beautiful” by People en Español.

People en Español teamed up with Yahoo! En Español and Telemundo to launch a nationwide search for the “51^st Most Beautiful” to be featured in its “50 Most Beautiful” issue. The special annual issue highlights the 50 most popular Latino celebrities in TV, film, and music.

The “51^st Most Beautiful” search provides a unique opportunity for a non-celebrity, like Veronica, to be featured in this celebrated issue available in newsstands on May 1^st.

Veronica’s whirlwind experience will culminate at the People en Español’s “50 Most Beautiful” party in May where she will walk the star-studded red carpet.

This year, user engagement for the contest surpassed that of last year’s by leap and bounds - as more than 85,000 votes were cast and over 30,000 comments were posted on the ‘51^st Most Beautiful’ site.

The program’s success is largely credited to a 360 media approach including online, print and TV created in partnership by Yahoo! En Español, People en Español and Telemundo to support the search for the “51^st Most Beautiful. 

The search for this year’s “51^st Most Beautiful” ran from January 14 through February 20, 2009. Yahoo! En Español users were given the opportunity to submit their photos at www.51bello.com to compete for the title of People en Español’s “51^st Most Beautiful.

Twenty five finalists were then selected by People en Español, Yahoo! En Español and Telemundo and posted on www.51bello.com.  Users were then able to view contestant photos and profiles, comment and vote for their favorites. The winner was determined by People en Español, taking into account user votes and other editorial components.
