Dear LAO Members and Supporters:
As of Saturday April 4th 2009, the following candidates have been elected to serve as LAO’s Board of Directors:
1. Roberto TORRES, Director of Development City of Canton & former Toledo School Board Member of Education [Canton];
2. Isabel FRAMER, National Chair of NAJIT National Association of Judiciary Interpreters and Translators) & Asian and Pacific Islander Institute on Domestic Violence Interpretation Technical Assistance & Resource Center (ITARC), Advisory Committee & Consultant to the staff on the Supreme Court of Ohio's Advisory Committee on Interpreter Services and on Governor Ted Strickland's Ohio Judicial Appointments Recommendation Panel (OJARP) & Language Access Consultants [Copley];
3. Lupe WILLIAMS, Lecturer of “Spanish Language and Sociology in the U.S. Workplace,” at ATI/The Ohio State University [Wooster];
4. Juan José PEREZ, Esq., Partner of Pérez-Morris Law firm, Board Member of the Columbus Crew Foundation, Ohio Hispanic Chamber Member & Chairman of the Governance Board of the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Greater Ohio, Kentucky, and Indiana [Columbus];
5. Jacqueline BAIRES, Current treasurer of LAO & owner of River Translations, LLC, & Ramona Reyes for School Board, Campaign Manager [Columbus];
6. Sonia TROCHE, Executive Director of Adelante Latino Resource Center [Toledo]; and
7. Ramona REYES, HR Specialist, Nationwide Insurance & Columbus City School board of education & Hispanic Chamber of Columbus, President [Columbus].
In the next 60 days, LAO will begin the process of incorporating into a 501 (c)(4) organization and file its Articles of Incorporation with the State of Ohio. Immediately following, the board will then hold a press conference and launch its media campaign. Thanks to everyone’s continued support.
