Project GRAD Lorain sponsors ‘Stepping into College’ Talent Exhibition
Lorain: On April 4, 2009, Project GRAD Lorain will be hosting the largest step show that Lorain has ever seen. The “Stepping into College” Talent Exhibition will allow members of national fraternity and sorority step teams from college campuses and local step groups to showcase their talent, while also supporting the mission for students to graduate from high school and enroll in college.
“The idea is to showcase this talent as well as to spotlight an aspect of college life so that we can encourage our youth and families to see college as something that they would want to strive for,” says Tawana Jackson, coordinator of the event.
The best college step teams from Midwest colleges and universities will compete before guests in the Lorain Admiral King High School auditorium. Step groups from Cleveland State University, Bowling Green State University, Ball State University, and Southview & Admiral King High Schools will perform.
Project GRAD Lorain is funded in part by the Project GRAD USA federal program and operates in a partnership with Lorain City Schools, Lorain County Community College and Lorain County Job & Family Services. They sponsor a comprehensive program for students in high-need, low-income schools to ensure they graduate successfully from high school and pursue a post-secondary education.
The Project GRAD initiative is only one of 12 such projects sponsored by this program. Locally, nearly 600 students at Admiral King and Southview High School participate in this program.
Students attending this event will also be able to receive information from various colleges. For a fun-filled evening of family entertainment be at the Stepping into College Talent Exhibition on Saturday, April 4, 2009 at Lorain Admiral King High School. Doors for the event open at 5:30pm.
