Deborah Ortiz Flores

Family and friends gathered at the lovely home of Steven Scarvelis and Raquel Bravo on Corey Road on Saturday, February 28, 2009, to celebrate the many accomplishments of Deborah Ortiz Flores.

Deborah has been very active in the Latino community since her early days at the University of Toledo. Most recently she received the Ohio Job and Family Services Directors Association Outstanding Director Award. Deborah was selected out of 67 county directors in the state of Ohio for her work.

Among the 30-plus guests attending the cocktail reception were her husband Tony Flores and his parents Vivian and Arturo Flores. They were joined by Deborah’s parents Zoila and Manuel Ortiz.

Also present were Hernán Vásquez and his daughter Marie, County Commissioner Tina Skeldon Wozniak, who is one of Deborah's bosses, and her husband Russ Wozniak. State Senator Theresa Fedor also dropped in to share some thoughtful words.

The host committee included Raquel Bravo, Margarita De León, Sabina Serratos, and Michele Martínez. The menu included tangy shrimp ceviche, savory chorizo stuffed mushrooms, black bean and avocado dips, spicy cajun shrimp, spanakopita, tamales, some delectable homemade Mexican wedding cookies, and fresh fruit.
