Read for Literacy offers free English as a second language
If you know someone who would like to learn to speak and read English, or to improve their English language skills, there is now a newly improved tutoring program available to help them.
Read for Literacy, Toledo’s volunteer literacy agency, has launched an enhanced English as a Second Language program that it hopes will better meet the needs of Spanish-speaking individuals who want to learn to speak and read English.
Tutoring to be offered at East Toledo Family Center, Aurora González Community & Family Resource Center, and Adelante, Inc.
No Charge for Tutoring
There is no charge to the student for the tutoring, which is provided by a volunteer. Students are asked to pay up top six dollars per year toward the cost of their study materials.
The expansion of RFL’s ESL service has been made possible by grants from the O-I Charities Fund and Toledo Community Foundation, said Funk.
“I also want to thank the executive directors of the three agencies – Michele Toth at Aurora González, Kim Parton at East Toledo Family Center, and Sonia Troche at Adelante - for their support in developing this program,” said organizer Funk. “Each has made space available for tutoring and has assigned staff members to facilitate matches and set up appointments.”
Persons interested in receiving tutoring may call Read for Literacy at 419-242-7323 or to contact or visit one of the cooperating agencies.
