Sisters to highlight ‘Making Strides Against Breast Cancer’ kick-off

On February 28, 2009, two sisters will stand before an audience of committed volunteers and share their unique stories of surviving breast cancer—one will speak from the perspective of a survivor, the other as a sister and loved one.

Their stories may be different, but their message is the same:  people working together can end breast cancer and the toll it takes on families every day.

The two sisters are Margaret Stout (survivor), and Lissa Guyton, and they will be featured at the kick-off breakfast for the American Cancer Society’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk.

The breakfast will be held on Saturday, February 28, 2009, at Fat Fish Blue at Levis Commons in Perrysburg.  Registration begins at 9:00 am, and the program starts at 9:30 am. A deluxe continental breakfast will be served. There is no fee to attend, however, registration is required. Please call 888-227-6446, option 2, option 4 to register. Anyone interested in the issue of breast cancer is invited to attend.

Also speaking at the event will be Dr. Michael McPhee, a board-certified surgical oncologist with the ProMedica Health System.  Dr. McPhee will discuss recent advances in the treatment of breast cancer.

This year’s walk will be the third annual event.  In its first two years, thousands of people came together to raise more than $100,000 to support the American Cancer Society’s mission of eliminating cancer as a major health problem.

The walk will be held on Mother’s Day weekend, Saturday, May 9, 2009, and has no registration fee and no fundraising minimum. The noncompetitive walk will cover 3.1 miles around Levis Commons.

For information on forming a team, please contact Sara Foos, at 1-888-227-6446, ext: 5209.
