Planetarium programming pays tribute to Black History Month

Throughout February, The University of Toledo’s Ritter Planetarium will host educational programs in honor of Black History Month. The programs are: Skywatchers of Africa: Fridays, through Feb. 27, at 7:30 p.m. The people of Africa use their knowledge of the sky for navigation and to meet their physical needs for survival. This program looks at several cultures from across the African continent and shows how these examples illustrate the experiences of people around the world.

Follow the Drinking Gourd: Saturdays, through Feb. 28, at 1 p.m. This historical program discusses how African-American slaves used the stars to find their way North to freedom. This program also includes a tour of the night sky.

Admission is $5 for adults, $4 for children 3 and older and senior citizens, and free for children 2 and younger. For more information on the programs, contact Ritter Planetarium at 419.530.4037 or go to www.rpbo.utoledo.edu.
