Small Colleges’ Art Exhibit at Flatlanders
Blissfield: Flatlanders Art Galleries hosts the Michigan Small Colleges’ Art Exhibition. This exhibit is free of charge and will be open to the public through April 17, 2009. The exhibition includes student artwork from Adrian College, Albion College, Alma College, and Olivet College.
Monetary awards will be given to the first, second, and third place recipients along with several honorable mentions.
The Michigan Small Colleges’ Art Exhibition was open to any full or part time student at the participating colleges. The works submitted were required to have been completed during the student’s undergraduate college career and not have been previously exhibited in the Michigan Small Colleges’ Art Exhibition. Each artist was allowed to submit up to three works: paintings, prints, drawings, photography, sculpture, ceramics, mixed media, video art and computer generated work.
Cathy Van Voorhis, who juried the work, holds Bachelors in Art and in Philosophy from Albion College and a Masters in Art History from Michigan State. Since 1997, she has been teaching studio art, art appreciation and humanities courses at Washtenaw Community College. Her paintings have been exhibited throughout the state in commercial and community galleries and academic venues; she has been the recipient of numerous awards, most notably, a Creative Artist Grant from The Michigan Council for the Arts.
Flatlanders Art Galleries are operated in conjunction with Flatlanders Sculpture Supply, a full service stone carving resource. Hours in the galleries are Tuesday through Friday from 10:00am to 5:00 pm, Saturday from 10:00am to 4:00 pm and Sundays from 1:00 to 4:00 pm.
