2009 marks the 35th anniversary of the DFT

The classic movie Lola Montés (France/Germany/1955, directed by Max Ophüls) kicks off the Detroit Institute of the Art’s Detroit Film Theatre 35th year. Ophüls selected a romantic comedy/tragedy for his first film in color and widescreen in Lola Montés—an Irish born dancer and courtesan, who fell from grace after her ascension to heights of fame across mid-19th century Europe. With Martine Carol, Peter Ustinov, Anton Walbrook, and Oskar Werner. This digital-restored masterpiece contains dialogue in French, German, and English, with English subtitles. 115 minutes, and will be shown by the DIA Jan. 16, 17, and 18, 2009.
