Maumee Branch doesn’t look a day over 91!

Maumee Branch Library, 501 River Rd., celebrates its 91st birthday with two days of fun. Maumee Branch opened on January 11, 1918. The structure was originally built with a donation from the Carnegie Foundation and the Maumee Branch is the last remaining Carnegie Library in Lucas County to continue to operate in its original building.

The schedule is: Friday, January 23, 2009, 10 a.m.—Little Buggers Birthday Bash: Preschoolers and their adult companions sing “Happy Birthday” to the Maumee Branch Library as it celebrates its 91st anniversary. There will be stories, rhymes, crafts, and cake.

Friday, January 23, 2 p.m.—501 River – A History: The library will take one back in time and tell you all about the library grounds, the role it has played in history, and then finish off with the history of the Maumee Branch Library.

Saturday, January 24, 10 a.m.-2 p.m.—Birthday Party Family Game Day: Enjoy a piece of cake and family games, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and challenge your family to a friendly game, work on a puzzle or craft.

Saturday, January 24, 3 p.m.—Happy Birthday Bees: The library continues its birthday celebration by inviting the whole family to join it for the play, “The Bees, the Wolves, and Beowulf,” a North Coast Theatre production.
