Wilkowski announces candidacy for Toledo Mayor
Dec. 18, 2008: Speaking to concerns of Toledoans struggling in the current recession, Democrat Keith Wilkowski announced today that he will be a candidate for Toledo Mayor in 2009 in a one-minute video statement released on the campaign's website, www.KeithWilkowski.com
Addressing from his own kitchen table, Wilkowski made the following statement:
“I’m Keith Wilkowski and I'm running for Mayor. Times are tough. Jobs are scarce. And at kitchen tables across Toledo, families aren't talking about next year's election. They're talking about last month's mortgage payment and this month's heating bill, about putting food on the table and presents under the tree. But I'm making this announcement now because the change Toledo so desperately needs demands bold leadership.

“I’m running to bring jobs back to Toledo - not with empty promises but with real plans and the best team to implement them. We can rebuild Toledo, creating good-paying construction jobs as we re-power our homes and our businesses with clean energy.
“We can put people to work making solar panels, wind turbines, and next generation cars. We can train our workforce for the jobs of the future and put college within reach of every student. I'm Keith Wilkowski and together we can turn Toledo around.”
Wilkowski is a former Lucas County Commissioner, who chaired the “Toledoans for Obama” effort from the spring of 2007 through this November's historic election.
A life-long Toledoan, Wilkowski is a graduate of Woodward High School, the Ohio State University, and the University Of Toledo College of Law. He has been married for 29 years to Barbara (Martel) Wilkowski, a registered nurse and former social worker. They have four children: Erica, Emily (husband Len), Greg, and Joe; and one grandchild, Colin.
