Thousands gather for Detroit's Thanksgiving Parade

DETROIT, Nov. 27, 2008 (AP): Millions of Michigan residents are beginning their holiday celebrations at home, while thousands more are gathering in Detroit for the annual Thanksgiving Day parade.

Crowds began staking out viewing spots along Woodward from Mack to Campus Martius early Thursday morning.

The parade has been held for more than 80 years, and this year’s version features more than 60 floats, balloons and marching bands.

Temperatures hovered in the low-30s Thursday morning.

About 40,000 more people are expected downtown Thursday afternoon to watch the Detroit Lions take on the Tennessee Titans in the annual Thanksgiving Day game at Ford Field.
