YMCA/JCC launches free three-week community program to fight against obesity

Obesity is the fastest-growing cause of disease and death in the United States and it’s completely preventable—one out of every eight deaths is caused by an illness directly related to being overweight or obese.

To help counter these risks, the YMCA/JCC of Greater Toledo is launching “Get Active – Jump Start Your Health!” – a free, three-week program designed to help area families get started on a new active, healthier life, from Dec. 1 through Dec. 24, 2008, with no obligation. Participants can sign up for the program at any of the YMCA/JCC’s 11 area locations.

According to Todd Tibbits, Vice President of Operations for the YMCA/JCC, program participants “can try out the latest cardio and strength equipment, sample some classes, or just come in with your family to swim or play.”

Following the program, participants will have the opportunity to join the YMCA/JCC at a reduced rate—kids are free when their parents join.
