UT was one of 16 colleges in Ohio awarded the grant through the ODNR’s College and University Recycling and Waste Reduction Program. UT, which will provide $21,000 in matching funds, will use the grant to purchase a new recycling truck and recycling containers for use on the HSC which has more than 3,500 employees and more than 2,500 students.
The tools will allow UT to increase the amount of recyclables it collects in all forms of paper (office, magazines, books, newspapers, etc.), containers of all types (metal, plastic, glass), and corrugated cardboard. The volume of recycled materials is expected to be approximately two tons each month.
The grant also provides funds for UT to conduct an internal campus waste audit to determine what is being recycled and to identify potential areas for improvement.
