Miguel Naguit, 7 others, honored in National Merit Competition
Six St. Francis de Sales High School students have been named National Merit Commended Students in the program for their exceptional academic promise—commended students placed among the top 5% of all students who took the test.
The six young men are Miguel Naguit, Benjamin Kowalski, Alexander Laney, Michael McNamara, Patrick Schlembach, and Daniel Williams.
According to teacher John Orozco, Miguel is president of the L.A.S.S.O. Club (Latin American Student Support Organization) and a Big Brother to freshmen. He is involved in football, track, and Campus Ministry. He is active in student government, serving as a student rep.

According to the school’s press release, Miguel has volunteered on service trips to Kentucky and W. Virginia. His teachers consider him an “asset to the St. Francis community. He is hardworking, outgoing and has a compassion for others that will make him successful in the future.”
Miguel is the son of Dr. Cornelia Naguit and Dr. María Naguit.
In all, eight St. Francis de Sales seniors have been recognized by the National Merit Scholarship Program—all have demonstrated outstanding academic potential by their strong performance in this highly competitive program.
In addition to the six mentioned above, two have achieved the highest honor as National Merit Semi-finalists. Semi-finalists are in the top 1 percent of more than 1.5 million students who entered the 2009 competition by taking the 2007 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test(PSAT/NMSQT)—they are Justin Mrkva and Benjamin Spang.
