Lucas County JumpStart Initiative to host town halls for laid-off workers

The Lucas County JumpStart Initiative, a collaborative of government, education, non-profit and for profit employment and training organizations at The Source, is inviting who have been impacted by layoffs in Northwest Ohio to meet with employment and training programs in a town hall setting.

These events will provide opportunities for workers to learn what special programs, services, and educational grants they may be entitled to under the Workforce Investment Act (WIA). Workers will also be encouraged to express their personal needs and concerns.

The meetings will also include an Education Fair, where workers can speak one-on-one with representatives of NW Ohio technical training institutes, colleges and universities.

The first town meeting is scheduled for Friday, Nov. 7, 2008, 10:00 a.m. – Noon, at the United Auto Workers Region 2B Hall, 1691 Woodlands Circle, Maumee.

Future events include:
Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. at the United Food and Commercial Workers Union 911 office, 7441 International Drive, Holland.
Friday, Nov. 21, 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. at Oregon Career and Technology Center, 2424 Seaman Road , Toledo.
