The University of Toledo Department of Music will hold two very different faculty recitals in November. Both are free and open to the public. The first is a jazz recital and features UT music faculty member Tim Whalen (piano), accompanied by Norm Damschroder (bass), and Jonathan Ovalle (drums) in the UT Center for Performing Arts Recital Hall, Monday Nov. 3, 2008, at 8 p.m. It features music of Tim Whalen, Chick Corea, Alec Wilder, Cole Porter, Billy Strayhorn, and Thelonious Monk.

The second concert features classical music and will be held Sunday, Nov. 9, 2008, at 4 p.m. in the UT Center for Performing Arts Recital Hall. Pianist Robert Ballinger will present a solo piano recital featuring the Fantasia in c minor, K.396, of Mozart, and Schumann’s magnificent Phantasie in C, Op. 17. The “crown jewel” of Schubert’s piano sonatas, the monumental Sonata in B-Flat, D.960, completes the program.
