UT’s Jazz Ensemble to pay tribute to jazz legend Jimmy Cook, Oct. 6

The University of Toledo Jazz Ensemble honors Jimmy Cook with, “Celebrating Jimmy: A Concert Tribute to Jazz Legend Jimmy Cook” on Monday, Oct. 6, 208, at 8 p.m. in the UT Center for Performing Arts Recital Hall.

This concert features the jazz legend’s favorite tunes such as “Wee Dot,” “Anthropology,” “Love for Sale,” and “There Will Never be Another You.”

Cook began performing at the age of 7.  From there he went on to tour the country, played Mile Davis’s trumpet, and became a founding member of the Toledo Jazz Orchestra. He continued to create inspirational music until his battle with cancer ended on May 9, 2008 at the age of 78.

Cook’s family is working with the University and the Toledo Jazz Orchestra to set up a scholarship fund at the University in Jimmy’s honor. T-shirts with Jimmy’s photograph will be available for sale at the concert for $20. Proceeds will benefit the scholarship fund.
Tickets are $5 for general admission and $3 for students and seniors. For more information call the University of Toledo Music Department at 419.530.2448.
