LUNA hosts scholarship gala, Sept. 12
Latinas United Networking Association (LUNA) celebrates five years of service with a 5th Anniversary Gala and Scholarship Fundraiser dinner and wine/champagne taste, September 12, 2008, at the Byzantine Center at the Grove, 3801 Shady Run Road, Youngstown, 6-10 p.m.
According to Marilyn Montes, LUNA Board Chair, “During the evening festivities, LUNA will award three individual $500 scholarships to area Latino students. The recipients for the 2008 scholarships are: Nicole Rodríguez, freshman, Youngstown State University, Marine Biology; Ryan Colón, sophomore, Oberlin College, Neuroscience & African American studies; and Sarah Navarro, sophomore, John Carroll University, Business.”
In commemoration of the 5th anniversary, L.U.N.A. will also present the “La Estrella de LUNA” award, which recognizes a Latina who has contributed and made a positive impact in the Hispanic community. The recipient of the award for 2008 is Carmen Lydia Molina of Campbell.
Established in May of 2003, L.U.N.A. is a non-profit organization comprised of professional Latinas. The association promotes Latina leadership and empowerment and advocates on issues relating to education, health and employment opportunities for Latin women and youth in the community.
