Dragon Boat Festival to benefit Partners In Education

TOLEDO: The 7th Annual Partners In Education Great Maumee River Dragon Boat Festival takes place on Saturday, July 26, 2008 at International Park, downtown Toledo.

1

Forty-five teams are scheduled to participate in the festival. The 40-foot, Hong Kong style Dragon Boats, complete with dragon head and tail, will be cruising up and down the Maumee River from 8:00 a.m. through 5:00 p.m. A team is comprised of twenty crew members, with a steersman and a drummer.  Each team paddles a 500-meter course, racing against three other boats.

Each team participates in three races, with first round times determining the second round and championship races. Trophies will be awarded in various industries, ranging from media to finance.

Partners In Education is a non-profit organization that encourages area businesses, government, organizations and other groups in the Toledo-area urban schools. Partnerships address the needs of the schools they serve, with the goal of promoting student success. There are over 140 school-community partnerships in area schools. Proceeds from the event will provide program support to these partnerships and area schools.
