Betty Sutton elected to lead Democratic Freshman class

July 9, 2008: Heading into the 2008 election, the Democratic Freshmen have chosen Congresswoman Betty Sutton (D-OH) to serve as president of the 49 Member Class of 2006.

“I am honored to have been selected by my colleagues to lead the Freshman class, particularly as we approach one of the most critical elections in recent history. Moving forward, we will be working hard to create economic opportunities for all Americans [U.S.] and ensure that we have a government that is worthy of this great nation and the people we are so honored to represent,” said Congresswoman Sutton.

The Democratic Freshman Class of 2006 meets weekly with Speaker Nancy Pelosi to discuss policy initiatives, message strategy, and the nation’s direction. “As a strong independent voice for the people of Ohio, Congresswoman Betty Sutton has been a tireless advocate for not only her constituents, but all Americans [U.S.], on the critical issues facing our nation,” Speaker Pelosi said. 

“In Betty Sutton, her colleagues have chosen a Freshman Class President whose intellect and passion will be an invaluable resource for the Democratic Caucus and the entire Congress.  I congratulate Congresswoman Sutton,” concluded Pelosi.
